This position provides administrative direction for Medical Staff Services and to the medical staff organization. Responsible for department operations, budgeting, planning and coordination of information flow between other departments/services performing quality improvement functions to assure consistency, communication and efficiency. This position maintains responsibility for monitoring all applicable regulatory laws and statutes (state and federal) and accreditation standards, as well as the Medical Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and the policies of Phoenix Children’s Hospital for compliance by the medical staff organization. The Director of Medical Staff Services reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or management related field. (Required)
Graduate level work and/or Master's Degree in business, healthcare, or related field. (Preferred)
Experience
Five (5) or more years of recent experience in a Medical Staff Director or Manager position which includes management and supervisory responsibility for the entire medical staff services function. (Required)
Knowledge of medical/legal issues, State/Federal Regulatory requirements, DNV or The Joint Commission and NCQA accreditation standards (Required)
Experience with hospital organization, policies and procedures, development of medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and DNV or The Joint Commission standards relating to medical staff and quality assurance. (Required)
Experience with medical staff hearings & corrective action; medical staff quality assurance processes, including peer review activities;working with both employed and non-employed medical staff members; and working with hospital departments in a collaborative way. (Preferred)
Certifications
Valid certificate as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM). Certification must be maintained by achievement of CEU requirements at least every three years. (Required)
