Assignment of ICD-10 and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures in inpatient and outpatient medical records. Apply knowledge of coding principles, regulations and guidelines. Accurately abstract medical records current abstracting system.

CCS preferred, passing a test at 90% , but will consider RHIT/RHIA with 3 years coding inpatient experience or - 2 years experience at a Coder II Level and successful completion of Beebe Transition to IP Coder. Inpatient coding required to assist as needed with all other types of hospital-based coding.
Responsibilities: Reviews all inpatient records and outpatient surgical records for correct assignment of ICD-10/CPT codes utilizing coding books, reference materials, and 3M Encoder. Acts as consultant to Coder II staff and other departments in accurate coding of outpatient diagnoses Queries physicians for clarification on diagnoses utilizing pre-printed coding inquiring forms and letters. Clearly explains questions, resulting in correct documentation and code assignment. Enters medical record abstracted data into the SoftMed system. Enters ICD-10/CPT codes into the billing Claims Editor as needed. Maintains knowledge of coding changes through Coding Clinic, seminars and reference materials made available. Perform coding audits as assigned. Provides results and recommendations. Participates in group discussions on coding changes, audits. etc. Maintains knowledge of the DRG and APC system as appropriate to job assignments. Understands basics of revenue management under these systems. Assists in training of new coders and in training of other hospital staff in coding principles.
