Summary: Responsible for definitive diagnostic information in 2D/M-Mode Echo, Pulsed Wave and/or Continuous Wave Doppler and Doppler Color Flow Velocity Mapping (TTE) as well as Stress Echo (SE) and Transesophageal Echo (TEE). Will be accountable to the cardiologists during interpretation of studies performed.
Other information: Two to three years' experience in 2D, M-Mode Echocardiography and 1 year experience in Cardiac Doppler and Color Flow Mapping preferred.
Responsibilities: Performs TTE, TEE, SE including measurements of cardiac structures and doppler gradients using the computer-assisted analysis package. Recognizes artifacts and technical problems and eliminates probable sources. Recognizes need for contrast & initiates standing order. Recognizes abnormalities and reports to physician in a timely manner. Repeats various portions of the study at the request of the cardiologist or coordinator. Responds to cardiologist during their interpretation of studies. Increases clinical knowledge through one or more of the following: journal review, text book and video training aides, membership in local echo club and in a national or international association. Attends in-service and other meetings as required. Assures that patient charges are generated and documentation is completed and accurate. Actively participates in performance improvement process to include evaluating, reporting and follow-up recommendations. Maintains equipment and orders necessary supplies. Trouble shoots minor equipment problems and helps evaluate new equipment. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment and infection control. Participates in the development and provision of patient, family, staff and community education programs. Prioritizes all procedures and situations within the department.
