Coordinates the functions for the organized medical staff and advanced clinical practitioners Carilion Medical Center.
Leads the Credentialing and Privileging Process for review and approval of medical staff and advanced clinical practitioners at a Carilion Clinic facility. Acts independently to review and assess provider applications for completion and to identify credentialing and/or privileging concerns. Coordinates applicant information with the centralized verification staff for initial and reappointment applications. Works closely with team members to track status of applicants and medical staff members. Facilitates in a team approach to ensure timely processing of credentialing and/or privileging actions, including reappointment completion within twenty-four months of last appointment. Facilitates in a team approach to assist providers with resolution of questions or concerns related to Credentialing and Privileging.

Education: Associate Degree in Medical Staff Service Science or other (AA) degree in Health, Business or Technical Field preferred. If no degree; minimum of 3 years of experience in a hospital Medical Staff Services office as a specialist.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience in Medical Staff Services, Centralized Verification Organization, and credentialing or similar activities. Clinical, medical terminology background preferred and experience with staffing clinical/peer review committee/department meetings. Prior computer experience with Adobe Pro, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel required. Previous experience with Cactus or other medical staff/credentialing data base preferred. (intermediate to advanced skills). Participation in successful Joint Commission surveys with working knowledge of applicable accreditation standards, state statues and federal regulations.
License / Certification: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred over Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPCSM) or both. If not currently certified will attain certification within 4 years of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Ability to function in a demanding and fast paced environment. Possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills and have the ability to work on several projects simultaneously. Accurate computer skills, thorough knowledge of office software programs including Windows, MS Office, Excel, and ability to update and run reports in Cactus database or similar applications. Minimum typing skills of 50 words per minute.
