We are recruiting an Area Director, Health Information Management to join our Inpatient Rehab Facility Operations within Kindred Rehab Services. This is a remote position.
Responsible for the leadership and management of the health information systems of more than one hospital consistent with standards of accrediting and regulatory agencies and requirements of Kindred Healthcare. Directs the coordination and integration of the health information systems function including coding and coding credentialing. Oversees and develops health information systems program. Plans, organizes, and directs the provision of medical record services; establishes policies, procedures, standards, and departmental objectives; supervises all functions, including record completion, transmission, indexing, abstracting ,coding, research, filing, storage, retrieval and maintenance. Develops and implements new policies and procedures for handling health information and assists in medical research and health care projects. Collaborates closely with the area / district hospital CEO's / Administrator, Market Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director and Regional Office.
Assist the Health Information/Medical Records department to optimize the efficient and effective handling of patient records and related documents; plans and develops systems, which meets various agency standards as well as company policies and procedures.
Oversees procedures to meet legal and accreditation regulations regarding content and process of medical records and release of information; manages continuous quality improvement of the handling of patient information; ensures confidentiality and integrity of patient records.
Maintains appropriate medical records and statistics for prospective pricing systems to ensure compliance with TJC, CMS and PRO regulations. Serves as a HIPAA resource to CEO's. Ensures HIPAA Tracking Log is secure but available for future queries.
Understand evolving accreditation standards, federal, state and local regulations and third-party requirements in the area of quality assurance, record and information management, correspondence, medical records documentation and coding rules.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for documenting, storing, and retrieving information, and for processing medical and legal documents, insurance data, and correspondence requests, in conformance with federal, state, and local statutes.
Develops in-service educational materials and conducts instructional programs for health care personnel.
Supervises staff in preparing and analyzing medical documents.
Participates in development, design and evaluation of computer software for computerized health information system.
Analyzes patient data for reimbursement, facility planning, quality of patient care, risk management, utilization management, and research.
Educate, train and mentor staff
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred.
Advanced computer knowledge.
Knowledge of basic office equipment.
Appropriate telephone communication skills.
Critical thinking, appriopriate prioritization and time management skills.
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in medical record science or medical record administration.
Certification by examination RHIA, RHIT or CCS program by the American Health Information Management Association
Minimum of 7 years experience in health information/medical records, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
Experience with supervision, hiring, and evaluations highly preferred.
Previous experience in electronic medical record environment highly preferred.
At least 2+ years experience, as a Health Information Management Manager or Director required.
