The Director of Medical Staff Services leads the system-wide direction and management of the Medical Staff Office in areas of medical staff administration, credentialing, privileging, medical affairs, Bylaws, peer review, medical staff education, and development.
Leads and oversees the administrative process over Medical Staff applications, appointments, privileges, credentialing, and administrative support services for the medical staff, and ensures appropriate health professionals are coordinated in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
Reviews and interprets new and developing regulatory and accrediting agency standards that impact the medical staff and communicates these in an appropriate and timely manner.
Provides administrative support for medical staff functions and to the medical staff leadership including elected and appointed medical staff organization representatives, in-licensing agencies, and Medical Staff Bylaws and accompanying documents.
Ensures Medical Staff Office and credentialing program comply with Medical Staff standards, The Joint Commission, legal and all regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
Leads the coordination and staffing of medical staff meetings in keeping with TJC standards and CMS requirements.
Initiates, updates and facilitates the development of medical staff policies and Bylaws as appropriate.
Oversees preparation of agendas, transcription, and recordkeeping of minutes; provides advice and assistance to Chairpersons.
Ensures there are continuity and flow of information between committees, divisions, and facilities.
Leads initiatives to correct deficiencies for compliance.
Coordinates with the quality department to ensure the facilitation of both Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).
Leads and develops a high-quality team that is aligned with the current and future needs of medical staff services.
This will be supported through candidate selection, setting performance expectations, coaching, mentoring, and providing ongoing feedback to foster an innovative and learning environment.
Oversees physician learning center resources and operations.
Establishes and leads medical staff orientation, including medical staff officer and committee chair orientation and that of new professional members.
Works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team approach to ensure physician concerns are addressed through established medical staff processes.
Interprets, explains, and follows all regulatory guidelines, including medical staff bylaws, fair hearing plan, rules and regulations, and policies.
Oversees the selection, management, and maintenance of the credentialing database system.
Manages the coordination and tracking of continuing medical education programs for physicians.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Professional Medical Staff Manager (CPMSM) or Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Clinical background preferred; knowledge of medical terminology required. Computer and software knowledge, including database management. Demonstrated experience overseeing the physician credentialing process. 3-5 years of progressive responsibility and experience in Medical Staff Services, with 2 years of management or office management experience preferred
