Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to facilitate the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation and to accurately represent the severity, acuity and risk of mortality profile of the patient being treated.
Must possess a current, valid RN or LPN license or an RHIA, RHIT or CCS credential; physician.ï¿½ Minimum of 3 years clinical experience or inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting.
ï¿½ Familiarity with coding concepts and coding software desired. ï¿½ Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical records documents. ï¿½ Knowledge of the elements of disease processes and related procedures. ï¿½ Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes. ï¿½ Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ï¿½ Excellent critical thinking skills. ï¿½ Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective partnering relationships with physicians, nurse staff, hospital management and HIM coding staff. ï¿½ Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment. ï¿½ Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment. ï¿½ Assertive personality traits to facilitate ongoing physician communication.
