This position, under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness, will provide direct clinical care and clinical oversight for services, including primary care and preventative care, for the over 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Success in this position will require a strong clinician and leader with a deep commitment to and understanding of young adult contemporary healthcare issues, proven experience and skills to work effectively with a diverse population, and a high-energy readiness to develop and enrich a talented group of health professionals. The Director is responsible for directing operations of the medical services, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. The Director is responsible for quality management and standards for all medical patient care programs, including planning, policy development, procedural review and safety. Establishes partnerships and collaborates with campus departments, other medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate student health services and to represent the interests of the SHCC to improve medical clinic efficiency and services to students. In collaboration with other SHCC administrators, provides strategic leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective health care to Fresno State students and efficient management of staff in accordance with goals, objectives, policies and applicable regulatory agency rules and regulations.
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.
Anticipated hiring salary range is $195,000 - $210,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Acts as the "Administrator in Charge" of all medical services.
- Provides direct patient primary ambulatory care, which entails spending a portion of the time evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients.
- Oversees and directs Clinic Nursing, Laboratory, X-ray and SHCC medical and ancillary services, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current policies/procedures, regulations, and guidelines that govern the CSU System and Student Health and Counseling Center, implementing new programs or best practices, which improve the quality of care & services and reduce costs.
- Leads individuals and projects in a team effort to accomplish institutional and divisional goals and objectives.
- Assists with data collection, data analysis, benchmarking and producing annual reports.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders across the University, within the Division of Student Affairs, and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to address students' health needs.
- Assists Quality Management & Improvement committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies and opportunities to improve services.
- Collaborates with other campus departments to develop new programs, expand the level of health services provided, and increase outreach programs.
- In partnership with other SHCC administrators, assists with developing SHCC strategic plan.
- Directs and resolves human resource, labor relation and employee & department safety and risk management issues; also investigates student service complaints as needed.
- Remains current on all accreditation standards developed by AAAHC; ensure SHCC maintains accreditation.
- Assists with SHCC budget planning.
- Conducts performance reviews on all medical staff.
Secondary duties of the job include:
- Develops and maintains systems and protocols to ensure fulfillment of legal and ethical responsibilities of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
- Establishes medical, personnel utilization, and quality/performance improvement policies.
- Works with the administrative Leadership team, respond to student proposals and complaints regarding medical care.
- Oversees the credentialing and privileging and peer review for medical staff members.
- Oversees medical aspects of day-to-day operations to balance quality of care and staff morale with efficiency, productivity, and budgetary constraints.
- Develops and maintains clinical and operational policies and procedures consistent with established practice standards to ensure healthcare provided at the Student Health and Counseling Center meets the highest possible professional and ethical standard.
- Serves as a member of the SHCC Leadership Team to plan, develop, coordinate, assess and implement, as well as setting goals for strategic planning.
- Active involvement with committees and professional organizations both internal and external to the Student Health and Counseling Center, in order to champion the health of the college student population, advance the SHCC mission and support the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
- Works collaboratively to foster and maintain a collaborative, engaging and positive work environment for all staff.
- Serves on, participates in, and/or chairs various committees of SHCC, Division of Student Affairs, and University.
- Current and valid medical license to practice medicine in California (Medical Board of California) in one of thefour specialties: Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics/Adolescent or an equivalency.
- Knowledge and experience applying the principles of effective supervision and management.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct work of others and plan, organize and implement health services.
- Three years of progressive clinical practice and evidence of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
- Possess and maintain current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American OsteopathicAssociation (AOA) medical board certification appropriate for the assigned duties.
- Possess and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances.
- Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.
