Ability to function in a demanding environment by navigating multiple projects simultaneously, and effectively supporting a busy Medical Staff Office. The Credentialing Coordinator II facilitates all aspects of credentialing, including applications, reappointments, proctoring and competencies. Provides administrative support and acts as a liaison to committees, physicians and other medical staff department members ensuring all medical staff credentialing is acted upon in a consistent and timely manner. Interfaces with physicians and hospital management staff in a positive and professional manner. Responsible for assigned Medical Staff Departments as assigned by Director/Manager. May oversee other Credentialing Specialists.
Coordinates the timely processing of all activities of initial and reappointment applications for completeness and in accordance with appropriate standards relative to the organizations Credentials Manual. Provides credentialing support to the Medical Staff Manager and reviews the applications of other Credentialing Coordinators.
Demonstrates knowledge of current medical staff standards as related to deemed agencies and other regulations as appropriate to medical staff and medical education.
Communicates with Medical Staff Coordinators during the credentialing process to ensure timely and expeditious completion of process.
Oversees preparation and accuracy of credentialing reports.
Investigates credentialing issues of concern, generates reports, and presents findings to facilitate recommendations to the Credentials Committee function.
Prepares information for the Credentials Committee (function) to include advising the department chairs/members on credentialing process and procedure.
Maintains confidential credentials files on all members of the medical staff and allied health professionals, including current staff status, current licensure and other certifications, as well as privileges.
Transcribes minutes of assigned medical staff meetings assuring timeliness and accuracy.
Secures appropriate peer competency references and prepares credentials files.
Obtains primary source and other verifications in accordance with established guidelines.
Communicates with applicants during credentialing process to ensure timely and expeditious completion of process.
Researches incidents, malpractice claims, advisory letters/letters of concern etc and request appropriate follow-up information from practitioner or other sources as indicated.
Mentors and assists other Credentialing Specialists in all aspects of credentialing functions.
Assists with gate keeping and maintaining current database for physician information, i.e., physician staff and non-staff dictionaries.
Participates in departmental PI initiatives, including regulatory preparedness.
Coordinates and completes special projects in a timely manner. Appropriately prioritizes all tasks so that deadlines are met with continued focus on quality.
Works with IT and appropriate departments to assist with daily reports reflecting missing or incomplete information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Associates degree preferred or equivalent education/experience.
Minimum of 3 years experience Medical Staff Services Department and/or acute care hospital experience required.
Must have strong computer, communication, and writing skills.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical staff services and/or acute care hospital experience, preferred.
