The Credentialing Specialist II coordinates the functions for the organized medical staff and advanced clinical practitioners at Carilion Medical Center.
Leads the Credentialing and Privileging Process for review and approval of medical staff and advanced clinical practitioners at a Carilion Clinic facility
Acts independently to review and assess provider applications for completion and to identify credentialing and/or privileging concerns
Coordinates applicant information with the centralized verification staff for initial and reappointment applications. Works closely with team members to track status of applicants and medical staff members.
Facilitates in a team approach to ensure timely processing of credentialing and/or privileging actions, including reappointment completion within twenty-four months of last appointment.
Facilitates in a team approach to assist providers with resolution of questions or concerns related to Credentialing and Privileging.
Cross trains with centralized verification personnel to be able to assist in times of heavy activity, vacations, and/or illness; includes accessing of forms needed for packets, data entry in software, other resources used, processes, etc.
Utilizes credentialing software and ancillary software to ensure the credentialing process and privileging process are electronic to its fullest capability.
On Site Resource for Medical Staff and Advance Clinical Practitioners
Resource to medical staff and administrative leadership on a daily basis, including liaison between the two to coordinate and/or communicate information needed by both parties and/or others in the organization.
Resource to new medical staff members regarding the credentialing and privileging process throughout the members’ term on staff. (i.e. – application process, orientation, and reappointment)
Understands and maintains current knowledge of medical staff governance documents, applicable accreditation standards, state statutes, and federal regulations to provider interpretation and education to medical staff or administration as needed.

Education: High school diploma with training in office and computer skills. Some college education preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years office experience, preferably in Medical Staff Services, Centralized Verification Organization, and credentialing or similar activities.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred, ability to gain certification within 4 years.
Other: Very detail/results oriented. Computer proficient. Ability to problem solve. Team player. Good interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills. On-job-training in JCAHO, NCQA, URAC credentialing guidelines and regulatory agency requirements.
